Introduction
Recycling represents the final pillar of GDV’s circular ecosystem: the stage where batteries that have reached the end of their life are given a new opportunity.
- Through controlled, safe, and certified recycling processes, GDV ensures that every lithium-ion battery, cell, or module is treated responsibly, maximising material recovery while minimising environmental impact.
- This is where a battery completes its full lifecycle — from use in electric vehicles or energy storage systems, to its return to the production chain as strategic materials such as lithium, nickel, cobalt, and others.
Efficient and Traceable Recovery of Critical Materials:
At GDV Recycling, we combine licensed operations, proprietary treatment technology, and traceable management to ensure the efficient and safe recovery of critical materials from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries.
- Licensed Facility (R0404 Licence)
GDV holds the R0404 waste recovery licence issued by the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA), authorising the management, storage, and treatment of lithium-ion batteries in full compliance with the highest European environmental standards.
- Safe Battery Dismantling and Shredding
Batteries and cells that can no longer be reused or remanufactured are mechanically shredded in a controlled facility, separating fractions of plastics, aluminium, copper, steel, and black mass.
The process is carried out under safe conditions, using an inert atmosphere and temperature monitoring to ensure safety and product integrity.
- Black Mass Purification and Metal Recovery (R0402 Licence)
The black mass, which consists of fine powders containing valuable metals, undergoes a pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical purification process at GDV facilities. GDV holds an R0402 licence for the recovery and purification of critical raw materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel, issued by the Generalitat Valenciana (GVA).
These metals are then transformed into high-purity salts (sulfates) and reintroduced into the supply chain, closing the loop of the circular economy and reducing dependence on virgin resources.

At GDV, recycling is more than a process — it is a commitment. Every kilogram of recovered material represents less mining, lower emissions, and greater industrial sovereignty for Europe.
GDV Recycling operations are an integral part of our Sustainability and Good Governance (ESG) strategy, aligned with energy transition, decarbonisation, and circular economy objectives.
In addition to processing our own material, GDV purchases black mass and metallic fractions (scrap) from producers and recyclers across Europe.
We offer competitive quotations, laboratory analysis, and full traceability for every batch received.
